I am new to betta care. There are so many pellet brands on the market. What should I be looking for as far as ingredients go and what size pellets are best? This may be a weird question but has anyone made their own pellets, and if so how and with what ingredients?

    Thanks,

    Jason

Brands will vary country to country. I’m assuming you’re in the US? If so I recommend Northfins Betta Bits, Bug Bites, and omega one. 1mm size is what most bettas will eat. You want pellets that have meat ingredients as the first ingredients (whole fish, shrimp, or insects) and that have as little filler as possible (plant based ingredients like wheat and soy).

Yes I am in the U.S. Thanks for your recommendations. What are your thoughts on the Hikari bio gold betta pellets?

They are not very nutritious in my opinion. It’s ingredients aren’t the best. No whole ingredients, just meals. The first ingredient is fish meal then the second 2 are grain fillers.

Thank you Jackie I appreciate your advice. 🙂 I will get one of those pellet brands you suggested.

Everything Jackie said is spot on. Good luck finding you betta some new foods. A helpful tip is to keep the extra food in a fridge or freezer to prolong freshness and keep it longer. Just keep out what you will use in a couple of months.
