Local show does not refer to District. It is the new name for “certified’ shows. Many new people questioned why Certified shows were the ones that did not require Certified Judges. And in other languages they have used the term “Local”, so Area 1 made the change.

Canada shows are close to the US border, so they have a solution of being able to drive fish across. And Like Canada, people can drive their own personal fish to Mexico and back. But the shows in Mexico are 10 hours from the border. There was hope for Monterrey, which is only 90 minutes from the border, but that has fizzled. I think there is a Canadian member who carries mail-ins across the border, but no return. Everyone is more cautious about the Mexican border. Back when they were considering a convention, they thought about people flying down to the US side, then taking a charter bus to the convention site 10 hours away. That way each person would be transporting their own fish. But that idea was abandoned as impractical, and still with potential of problems. Other ideas like shipping to someone on the border, then that person taking them across also put that person in jeopardy and the Mexican mail system does not officially allow fish shipping and thus unmarked boxes would not be as protected or guaranteed to arrive by a time limit. So they had to give the idea up.

They have received entries once or twice from Asia, and I think they do use trans-shippers for that, but the licensing seems to be different. They said it would cost $1500. US dollars and no-one down there has that kind of money.

I think eventually, if they continue to grow and host shows, that it will make sense for Mexico to become their own Area, but until they have more active clubs, I think things will stay as they are.
