So my son has bred some guppies, and the fry seem to eat finely crushed flakes ok. Are there any dry betta foods that are not live foods that brand new fry could eat? If I crushed betta pellets into a powder would they be able to eat it and survive? I realize guppy fry and betta fry are very different…

    Thanks for any input

Unfortunately most betta fry need live wiggling food for at least the first 2-4 weeks. If food is not moving they don’t even try to eat it. Thats not to say some won’t figure it out but you may find you only get small numbers surviving. In other countries I believe a lot of people feed prepared egg yolk and fry take it well. I personally have never tried it so I couldn’t say. I usually just offer my fry newly hatched baby brine shrimp for the first stage and then around 3-4 weeks old I begin offering frozen and dried foods and slowly wean them off live.
