Housing

Betta gladiator is a very aggressive species from reports.  Pairs should be housed in a 55 gallon tank.  Pairs should be given cover such as caves and plants.

Water Conditions

Gladiator comes from blackwater environments.  Other members of the unimaculata complex are fairly tolerant of varied water conditions some only breed when the pH is below 6.

Sexing

Males have a broader head then females. Males may have longer extensions of their bottom lips.  Females ovaries might be visible via spotlighting.

Reproduction

Gladiator is a paternal mouthbrooder and the male should incubate from 12 to 18 days with 14 days being very consistent.  Incubation time can vary with water temperature.  Females normally initiate spawning.

Similar Species Similar species would be unimaculata complex members.
