The International Betta Congress (IBC) is pleased to announce a program honoring middle and high school science fair participants who use Betta as a research animal in their projects. Students who have placed in their school, regional or state science fair are eligible. The prize includes an engraved plaque, a US Saving Bond, and the opportunity to submit an article describing their research to the IBC journal Flare.

Interested students should bring a copy of this notice to the attention of their science teacher. Application must be made by the teacher and include three (3) copies of the written research project as well as a letter on school stationary certifying that the project in question placed at the school, regional, or state fair.

In recognition that not all students have access to science fair competitions, the IBC will also accept nomination from science teachers for student projects that have not competed in fairs. The nomination should detail why teacher feels that the student's project would have proven competitive had the student had the opportunity to compete.

Applications for a given academic year are due by 1 May. The IBC Research and Grants Committee will review submissions. Awards will be announced June 1. Address submissions to:
